Belt Ranks and Grading Requirements

Belt ranks will help students to set short-term achievable goals. We typically have a promotion test every three months. The following grading requirements should serve as a good guide for your next test, however please understand these are only a part of complete gudeline.


Belt (Kyu/Dan) Requirements

White belt
(No Rank)

 

Yellow belt w/
White stripe
(10th Kyu)

One has learned Dojo Rule and Etiquette.
Kata: Taikyoku I, II, & III, Naihanchi

(Oregon Dojo only)

Orange belt
(9th Kyu)


One has learned Basics.         
Kata: Taikyoku Ura / Tate, Sokugi Ura / Tate    

Blue belt
(7th/8th Kyu)


One has learned all Stances, attained good Kiai & Spirit and Basic Fighting Skill .
Kata: Pinan I & II (Ura / Tate), Yantsu,
Gekisai (dai / sho)
yellow belt
Yellow belt
w/ Green stripe
(5th/6th Kyu)

One has learned Self-motivated-practice and
Advanced Fighting Skills.
Kata: Pinan III (Ura / Tate), Bo Kata, Nunchaku Kata I
yellow belt
Green belt
(3rd/4th Kyu)


One can teach and lead all Basics, and has attained skill of Assistant Instructor.
Kata: Pinan IV & V (Ura / Tate), Sanchin, Tensho, Sanchin-Tensho, Nunchaku Kata II

Brown belt
(1st/2nd Kyu)

One has learned Kyokushin Spirit, Philosophy, and History, and to teach Basics by Japanese terminology.
Kata: Saifa, Entensho, Seienchin, Nunchaku Kata III, Double Nunchaku

Black belt w/
1 Gold line
(1st Dan)

One can teach the entire class - Instructor.
One has Tournament Experience.
Kata: Garyu, Seipai, Nunchaku Kata Ura

Black belt w/
2 Gold lines
(2nd Dan)

Senior Instructor
One has Tournament Judging Experience
Kata: Kanku, Mekakushi-Kata

Black belt w/
3 Gold lines
(3rd Dan)
One has organized sub-branches - Branch Operator. One has International Fighting Experience
